A couple of weeks ago we attended Top Drawer, a bi-annual show of beautiful collections in homewares, gifting, fashion and craft. Top Drawer takes place at the impressive (and extremely large!) Olympia London venue and is an event we always look forward to. It’s the perfect place to chat and catch up with the brands we already stock and choose our favourite things from their new collections for the coming season. It’s also a destination to explore and discover a whole new range of inspiring brands and designers, both British-based and those from further afield.
Top Drawer Trends SS18
So, what happens when a design exhibition is packed with fabulous brands sitting side-by-side? Well, firstly, it’s hard to know where to start! But, after a few wanders and laps of the hall, you start to notice trends and get a good idea of what’s going to be popular in the world of home and lifestyle over the coming months. At a show so large, there are plenty of different styles, looks and designs to get excited by, but we’ve chosen our favourite trends to share with you that really reflect the Feather and Nest vibe. Plus, we’ll also give you a sneak peek into some of the new brands we’ll be introducing for Spring-Summer 2018 - trust us, they’re worth keeping an eye out for!
Top Drawer Trends to Watch in 2018
You may have noticed that we love juxtaposing our more Scandi- and British-inspired brands with a little sunshine. Last summer, our outdoor living accessories from Los Angeles-based brand ban.do were super popular. So, we’re very excited that one of Top Drawer’s big trends for next season is California Dreaming - it’s zesty, bright and playful! One of our new brands to watch for your alfresco accessories and an injection of summer fun is Aussie brand SunnyLife. They’ll be plenty of inspiration for children’s birthday parties and some fab toys and floats to keep them entertained during the summer holidays.
Top Drawers’ trends for Spring-Summer 2018 are definitely varied! In complete contrast to California Dreaming and bright pops of colour, we have Easy Living, an altogether much calmer affair. This trend builds on the Scandi-look with smooth shapes and textures and soothing colour tones. It features an injection of neutral, natural materials, such as wood and seagrass. Brands nailing this look are Also Home, Broste Copenhagen and Garden Trading.
The third trend we loved at Top Drawer was all-things geometric in design. Again, in contrast to the other trends here, geometric design is all about block colour, strong lines and interesting shape and form. You’ll see that we’ve already embraced this trend in many ways. Take our gorgeous geometric cushions from Skinny laminx, for example.
Or, the pastel and metallic geometric designs on our beautifully scented Paddywax candles.
Other Brands to Look Out For in 2018
This year, we fell in love with a host of new stationery brands to bring you more funny puns and smile-worthy greeting cards. After all, there’s just nothing like putting pen to paper! New brands we love include Marby & Elm, Hotchpotch and quirky Ohh Deer’s Hello! Lucky collection. We’ll also be expanding the collections of some fantastic brands we already stock, including Block and Wild and Wolf.
In short, we’re counting down the days until the warmer months because there’s simply so much to look forward to! Stay tuned for new product launches and get ready to inject your home with some fabulous new designs.
